Itinerary Overview

Chemka Hot Springs Day Tour – A Hidden Oasis Beneath Kilimanjaro

Overview

Somewhere between the dusty roads of Boma Ng’ombe and the wide shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, a secret waits for you. Surrounded by fig trees and tucked deep in the savannah, Chemka Hot Springs isn’t famous, and that’s its power because you won’t find it crowded.

Crystal-clear water bubbles up from underground caves, warm and impossibly blue. Monkeys chatter overhead, tree roots dangle into the pools, and for a few quiet hours—nothing exists but sunlight, laughter, and stillness.

This isn’t a fast-paced safari. It’s something simpler, softer. A reset. And at Serengeti Lion Safaris, we believe even one day can restore something you forgot you’d lost.

Itinerary Summary

08:00 – Pickup from Arusha

We collect you right from your hotel in Arusha after breakfast. It’s a slow, scenic drive through little villages, sisal plantations, and maize fields. Kids wave from dusty doorways, and Mt. Kilimanjaro plays peekaboo behind the haze. By the time we reach Chemka, the only sound left is birds and breeze.

10:00 – Arrival at Chemka Hot Springs

You step out and immediately feel it: calm. Water so clear it mirrors the sky. Fig trees wrapping like old arms around the pools. And that smell—clean, leafy, honest.

Your guide sets up a shaded rest spot with chairs and refreshments. Then you wade in.

10:30 – 13:30 | Swim, Float, Breathe

This is yours to enjoy however you want. Float on your back beneath sunlight-dappled leaves. Let the warm water wrap around your legs. Swing from the rope like a kid again and plunge in laughing. Or just sit at the edge, toes in the water, and watch dragonflies skim the surface.

You can chat with fellow travelers, read a book in a hammock, or fall asleep to birdsong. There’s no agenda—just peace.

13:30 – Picnic Lunch by the Water

We bring a fresh packed lunch—grilled chicken or veggie wraps, fresh fruit, and cold drinks. You’ll eat with your feet in the grass and the sound of water trickling nearby.

14:30 – Final Dip or Relaxation

Take one more swim. Or don’t. Let the breeze dry you off. You’ll probably notice how quiet you feel inside—like the noise you carry back home didn’t follow you here.

15:30 – Drive Back to Arusha

As the sun sets, we begin the ride back to Arusha. You might nap. You might replay the way the water sparkled when you dove in. Either way, you’ll return to Arusha feeling like something inside you has finally… slowed.

At Serengeti Lion Safaris, we believe the most magical places aren’t always filled with lions or elephants. Sometimes, they’re silent pools in the forest. Sometimes, they’re just still enough for you to hear yourself again
