Itinerary Overview
Arusha National Park Day Safari
Overview
Don’t let the small size fool you—Arusha National Park is one of Tanzania’s most underrated gems and in just a day, you will confirm this. Just a short drive from Arusha town, this lush, diverse park brings together misty forests, volcanic craters, flamingo-filled lakes, and Mount Meru’s majestic backdrop—all in one perfect day.
Arusha National park presents a perfect opportunity to get close to wildlife on foot, glide silently past hippos in a canoe, and enjoy a game drive that feels personal and unrushed. At Serengeti Lion Safaris, we love how Arusha National Park gives you a taste of everything—without needing to travel far to a distant park or stay overnight.

Itinerary Summary
Morning – Pickup & Scenic Drive to the Park
To start the safari, we shall pick you up from your hotel in Arusha at 7:30 AM, immediately proceed after a meet, greet and a simple briefing about the day’s adventure. It’s a quick and beautiful drive—within an hour, you’re at the park gate. As you enter, you might already see giraffes peeking through the trees or warthogs trotting by the roadside.
Late Morning – Game Drive through Diverse Landscapes
Your first game drive starts through lush montane forest, home to blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and bushbuck. You’ll explore the Ngurdoto Crater Viewpoint, sometimes called “Little Ngorongoro,” and glide through wide-open Momella plains where giraffes roam freely.
Optional Add-on: Canoeing on Momella Lake
If you are seeking a more unique experience, you may opt for a canoe safari across the small Momella Lake—as you glide quietly past hippos, flamingos, and waterbirds with Mount Meru towering above you. It’s serene. Unexpected. Unforgettable.
Midday – Picnic Lunch in the Wild
We’ll stop at a scenic picnic site, often near Small Momella Lake, where you’ll enjoy a freshly packed lunch with views of giraffes, birds, and wide skies.
Afternoon – Walking Safari (Optional) or Final Game Drive
Depending on your preference, you can take a guided walking safari with an armed ranger—getting up close to the land and learning about plants, animal tracks, and hidden park secrets. Or continue with a slow, scenic drive through different park zones—each offering something new.
Late Afternoon – Return to Arusha
Around 4:30–5:00 PM, you begin the drive back to Arusha. As the sun dips and the forest quiets, you return to your lodge not just with photos—but with stories.
